SUSHI RED EXPANSION MADISON, WI

This newly expanded space at RED builds on the success of the original restaurant, which we designed in 2016 around the elements of fire and water. Since its opening, RED has become one of Madison’s signature dining destinations—known for its bold vibe, exquisite culinary experience, and a unique atmosphere where elegance and creativity are always on the menu.

The design of this addition was conceived as an organic extension of the original space, carefully preserving the core concept while introducing new dimensions. The fire and water theme returns in striking forms—most notably, a vapor fireplace greets guests at the entrance and flows into the main dining room through a custom mosaic installation. This mosaic features a lava-like motif that cascades from the bar ceiling to the backsplash and across the dining wall, creating a dynamic sense of movement and heat.

Water reappears subtly in the bathroom design, where textured metal backsplashes reflect light like rippling water, adding depth and fluidity.

To complement these elemental themes, a new concept—earth—was introduced in the Private Dining Rooms. Drawing inspiration from crystal formations and underground caverns, this area features angular geometries and repeated diamond patterns in the custom wallcoverings and door panels. Darker, moodier tones enhance the mysterious, grounded atmosphere, offering a contrast to the vibrancy of the main space.

Throughout the restaurant, each zone offers a distinct sensory experience, yet all are united by a cohesive design language that ensures the entire space feels like one immersive, unforgettable environment.
